The winter of 2023 was harsh in Ladakh. On an expedition through the rugged mountains, my phone rang. It was Praneet Mehta (5906).
"Sir, what are you doing?" he asked.
"Nothing much, Mehta, just climbing mountains," I replied casually.
"But what do you want to achieve?"
It was a simple question, yet it struck a chord. No one had ever asked me that before. Taken aback, I responded, "I don’t know—climb higher and higher, I guess."
That year turned out to be a turning point in my life. It was the year I was introduced to Prateek Khanna and the DMET-MERI Ex-Cadets Association (DMECA). Little did I know then that this connection would not only redefine my mountaineering journey but also my entire perspective on life. The bond formed during those four years at DMET is so strong that its depth is often realized only much later.
A Brotherhood That Stands Tall
As I became more involved with DMECA, I came to appreciate the organization’s unwavering support and commitment to its members. Through them, I was introduced to inspiring alumni such as Mudit Mehrotra and Uday Purohit. Few truly understand the passion for adventure sports, and even fewer share the immense pride I feel when I stand atop a summit, the national flag fluttering in my hands. Yet, within DMECA, I found those who did.
Only a compassionate individual can truly understand another’s passion. DMECA is one such organization that not only understands but also nurtures the dreams and aspirations of DMETians. The respect and warmth I receive from my fellow alumni every time we meet are overwhelming. It is a reminder that DMET is not just an institution; it is a lifelong fraternity.

Receiving recognition from DMECA was an unforgettable moment. The recent award of INR 1 lakh was more than I could have ever asked for—it was not just about the monetary value, but about the acknowledgment of a journey that has been fueled by determination, resilience, and the spirit of exploration. To the entire DMECA team, I extend my heartfelt gratitude. Your unwavering belief in our alumni and your efforts in keeping our community united are truly commendable.
