Honouring Ramesh Dayal Mathur: A Legacy of Leadership and Kindness

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ramesh Dayal Mathur, a distinguished alumnus of the 1967-71 Calcutta batch of DMET (Directorate of Marine Engineering Training), with roll number 1389. Ramesh, affectionately known as a real gentle giant, was celebrated for his kindness, wisdom, and exemplary leadership.


During his time at DMET, Ramesh Dayal Mathur stood out as the SCC (Senior Cadet Captain) and the band leader, roles in which he displayed his remarkable leadership and dedication. His memorable contributions as the bass drummer in the DMET band showcased his enthusiasm and commitment to the institution and his peers.


His leadership extended beyond the band, making a lasting impact on his fellow cadets and the entire DMET community.


Ramesh's passion for the maritime industry led him to a long and successful career at sea, eventually attaining the rank of chief engineer. His career was marked by an unwavering commitment to excellence, earning him the respect and admiration of colleagues and industry professionals alike. He continued to sail well into his late 60s, demonstrating an enduring love for the sea and the maritime profession.


At the 19th Batch 2024 reunion in Udaipur, Ramesh Dayal Mathur's legacy was celebrated by his peers and friends. His contributions to the DMET community and the maritime industry were fondly remembered, highlighting his role as a leader, mentor, and a beloved member of the community.

His jovial nature and positive attitude endeared him to all who knew him, making him a cherished figure not only within the DMET community but also in the broader maritime world.
