As we step into a new year, I wish you all a very happy New Year and hope for a year filled with challenges that ignite your passion and dreams that light up your path.
"May all your dreams but one come true."
The year 2024 has been nothing short of extraordinary—a year that saw me climb more mountains than ever before and venture into the world of ultra-running by conquering a grueling 100-kilometer race. From setting a world record by summiting Everest and Lhotse twice in a single expedition to running my first ultra-marathon, it has truly been a dream run.
Here’s a recap of this incredible year:
January 2024: UT Kangri – A Journey Through Perseverance
After three failed attempts and two avalanches since 2021, I finally stood atop UT Kangri on my fourth try. The taste of success after multiple failures is indescribable, and this mountain evoked a rare emotional moment at the summit.
"Success is sweetest after failures."
This climb taught me patience, resilience, and the value of never giving up, no matter how daunting the challenge.
May 2024: Everest and Lhotse – A Dual Summit to Remember
Some moments etch themselves in your memory forever, and completing the dual summit of Everest and Lhotse is one such achievement. Battling diarrhea and extreme dehydration, this expedition pushed me to depths I had never explored before.
"Promise yourself no matter how hard it gets, you will never give up on your dreams."
This promise, made years ago, is one I strive to uphold every day, and this climb was a testament to its power.
July 2024: Mount Lenin – First Summit Outside the Himalayas
Mount Lenin marked my first summit outside the Himalayas and my first overseas adventure since returning from sailing in November 2021. Acting as both a climber and a guide, I discovered the joy of helping others achieve their dreams.
"Climb mountains not so the world can see you, but so you can see the world."
Guiding fellow climbers added a new dimension to my mountaineering journey, making this summit even more rewarding.
August 2024: Mount Elbrus – Reliving Memories and Igniting New Dreams
Summiting Mount Elbrus in Russia brought back memories of my sailing days and fueled a new quest to conquer the Seven Summits—the highest peaks on each continent. Joining this expedition as a mentor and guide gave me a sense of purpose and reignited my passion for exploring the unknown.
"I only wish to forever have a dream in my mind."
Venturing into Ultra-Running
This year wasn’t just about mountains; it also marked my entry into the world of ultra-running. Completing my first 100-kilometer ultra-marathon at the Border Run in 14 hours and 40 minutes was a massive confidence booster.
"I am ready to take it on."
